Acer unveils TravelMate Spin B1 360-degree convertible Windows 10 education laptop – BetaNews

When it comes to buying computers for education, there are many routes a school can take. If your aim is to prepare children for the workforce, however, Windows is still the best option. After all, Microsoft software solutions are still the stars of the show in the enterprise.

Today, Acer announces an intriguing 11.6-inch convertible laptop aimed at education. The TravelMate Spin B1 is built to be rugged and fairly no-frills, while also having some solid features like stylus support for Windows Ink. It is shock resistant and has a spill-resistant keyboard by default — perfect for children. It can double as a tablet too, thanks to the 360-degree hinge and touch screen.

“The TravelMate Spin B1 sports up to 13 hours of battery life, allowing students to learn without interruption, inside and outside the classroom, with power to spare for homework. Powered by Intel Pentium processors and Intel HD Graphics, the TravelMate Spin B1 offers solid everyday performance. A Chiclet keyboard provides excellent tactile feedback for accurate touch-typing, and a Precision Touchpad promotes comfortable and responsive navigation, while supporting Windows 10 gestures,” says Acer.

The popular computer manufacturer also shares, “Students can stay connected to their school network with fast dual-band 2×2 MIMO 802.11ac wireless connectivity. The device connects easily to peripherals via Bluetooth 4.0, two USB 3.0 ports, one USB 2.0 port and one HDMI port. Students can plug in their headphones with the 3.5mm head phone jack, while files can be easily shared with the built-in SD card reader.”

A really cool feature is the inclusion of LED lights embedded in the laptop’s cover. When in use, the student can use software to make the lights blink — a more high-tech way of raising a hand — to get the teacher’s attention. In theory, this should be less distractive then holding an arm up in the air. Plus, if a child needs to use the bathroom, it can be used as a less-embarrassing way of making it known to all. A very clever feature, indeed.

So, when can you buy this laptop? If you are an individual, you cannot. Acer will be selling it exclusively to school districts and other commercial customers in Q217. Acer will reveal more details regarding configurations and pricing in the future.
