A DAD of four has been named as the latest victim of Britain’s knife crime epidemic – after being hacked to death by an eight-strong gang armed with a machete.
Yassir Alam, 34, was surrounded and attacked by “7 or 8 lads” outside a Chinese takeaway in Birmingham, West Mids, on Tuesday evening in what his family claim was a case of mistaken identity.
Mr Alam and a male cousin were inside when a van rammed into the shop window and the two men were chased by a gang armed with weapons.
The Costcutter store co-owner, from Nelson, Lancs, was stabbed three times in the back as he tried to flee and was pronounced dead at the scene at 10pm on Tuesday.
His brother Sultan posted on Facebook: “On Tuesday the 4th of December 2018 my brother was stabbed with machete by 7 or 8 lads in Birmingham.
“He was mistaken for someone else.
“He died on his own he would have been scared and terrified. He was such a caring loving person even if he was being hit he wouldn’t fight back we lost a dad, a son, a brother please if anyone knows or seen this incident please, please get in touch with the police so we can get him some justice and his children and please pray for him and my mum.”
Yasir’s sister, Siyqa Khamum, 39, added: “People have killed an innocent man and taken him for no reason. They have taken him from my mother’s life.
“Yasir was a fun loving guy who was amazing with kids and he loved socialising with family and friends.”
Cops have arrested four men aged 20, 32, 36 and 41 on suspicion of murder and a 21-year-old woman on suspicion of assisting an offender.
Pals of Yasir, who leaves behind a widow and children Adil, 13, Azaan, eight, Malaika, 11 and four-year-old Hazan, have paid tribute to him online.
