ViLTE (Video over LTE) makes direct video calling possible through the phone’s dialer instead of using third party applications like WhatsApp. An extension of VoLTE (Voice over LTE), ViLTE is a popular feature that OEMs are integrating in smartphones these days to enhance user experience.
Keeping up with the trend, the Chinese tech giant Huawei has included ViLTE calling support in their devices like Nova 3, P20 Lite, Mate 20 Pro, Honor View 20 etc. And now this feature is making way to yet another Huawei sub-brand phone – Honor 7C.
For a quick refresher, Honor 7C (aka Huawei Enjoy 8 in China) is the OEM’s 2017 low-end device. Powered by Snapdragon 450 SoC, the phone comes with Android 8.0 (Oreo), layered with EMUI 8.
As per Honor Service’s initial words, ViLTE was aimed to be released on Honor 7C devices back in March. However, in March, the support gave a slightly different statement conveying the feature may not be availed due to hardware limitations. Following are both the statements:
But things change now. Currently, a new update is rolling out for Honor 7C devices bearing build number 220.127.116.11 (C675CUSTC675D1). The patch (weighs 300MB+) brings the May security patch, and also adds support for the much-awaited ViLTE calling (Video over LTE).
Here’s what the complete update changelog reads:
The update adds the ViLTE feature, which enhances voice services through a high quality video channel ad improves system security.
[Calls]Adds the ViLTE feature, which enhances voice services through a high quality video channel ad improves system security.
Integrates Google security patch released in May 2019 for improved system security.
Honor Service (at the official help form) is also informing users about this change, saying the update will be pushed out in batches.
We would like to inform you that we have started releasing the latest software update B184 in batches which will have ViLTE feature included
I am sure, this must be music to ears of Honor 7C users who have been desperately looking forward to ViLTE compatibility on their phones. But that’s not all.
Like may smartphone users from different OEMs, Honor 7C users are also eager to taste Android Pie. And going by the latest information shared by Huawei Mobile UK (through their official Twitter handle), Honor 7C will get Android 9.0 Pie, sometime later this year. Here’s what they said:
That means, Honor 7C users may have to with until the end of this year to get hands on Android Pie (the time by which many devices will be upgraded to Android Q instead). Here’s hoping the OEM releases the promised update at the soonest. Till then, enjoy ViLTE on your unit.
