HP has unveiled a Qualcomm-powered Windows convertible it claims will last a whopping 20 hours off a single charge.
The HP ENVY x2 is one of the first new-generation machines to run using Qualcomm’s uber-power-efficient Snapdragon CPU architecture.
Specifically, the LTE-enabled laptop will run using the Snapdragon 835 CPU seen in many top-end smartphones, including the HTC U11 and OnePlus 5T.
HP head of consumer personal systems Anne-Sophie Hadberg claimed the 835 means the ENVY x2 will offer users “the world’s longest battery life in a Windows detachable PC”.
The ENVY x2 has a similar design to the Samsung Galaxy Book, featuring a CNC-machined aluminium main tablet section and optional leatherette keyboard cover with a dockable active stylus.

Outside of the Qualcomm CPU, the ENVY x2’s specs are pretty par for the course. HP will offer it with up to 8GB LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB of SSD storage.
The convertible will initially run Microsoft’s education-focused Windows 10 S software. Windows 10 S is a locked-down ecosystem that only lets you install applications from the Windows Store that originally launched on the Microsoft Surface Laptop. Fortunately, power users will have a “one-time option to switch to Windows 10 Pro” after purchase.
The ENVY x2 is one of a wave of new Qualcomm-powered Windows devices set to hit the market. News of the machines broke at Computex in June, when numerous computer manufacturers, including HP, ASUS and Lenovo, were reported to be working on Snapdragon 835 Windows devices.
Qualcomm Director of Product Management, Monte Giles, told us pricing for the devices would start from $600-$800 (around £465-£620, before UK-specific taxes) at the start of September.
This makes the HP ENVY x2 one of the more expensive options set to hit the market. The ENVY x2 will launch in the UK in February 2018 with a £999 starting price. The tablet keyboard and stylus combo will set you back an even heftier £1199.
